Gelu Călăcean is Head of Unit in charge of the European Social Fund for Poland, Czechia and Slovakia. He is a Romanian national , working for 13 years in the European Commission in the areas of school education, skills, public employment services, employment policies. He worked extensively on the formulation, adoption and implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and as an advisor to the Director General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. Prior to joining the Commission, Gelu taught and conducted doctoral studies in Uppsala, Sweden.
